I head the PI department of Irwin Mitchell's Spanish office having relocated from the London office in September 2008.

I am an Associate of the International Travel Litigation Team of Irwin Mitchell and my main area of expertise concerns the international PI litigation field representing foreign domiciled victims in their compensation claims resulting from several different backgrounds including travel related claims, clinical negligence and industrial illness.

I also deal with catastrophic injuries such as brain and spinal injuries.

About Your Role
I am an English Solicitor & Spanish Abogado.
I am a general commercial and practical lawyer and being one of very few dual qualified solicitors bilingual in English & Spanish, I get involved in a wide range of legal matters. Working closely with my UK and Spanish colleagues I have acted for clients purchasing hotel and resort complexes, apartment blocks, land for development and general commercial and non commercial property. As a result of the economic downturn, I am working closely with the litigation department and representing clients who are initiating legal proceedings against Spanish developers for breaches of contract.

As a dual qualified solicitor I can prepare certificates of law for clients explaining the interpretation of the law relating to their particular case. Certificates of law are usually required for property and inheritance related matters.

I have advised clients on incorporating companies in Spain and England, joint ventures, general commercial contracts and provided ongoing legal advice to corporate clients.

I specialise in the fractional, timeshare and holiday ownership industry and have acted for developers, trustees, committees, exchange companies and marketing companies.

I also specialise in foreign personal injury matters and have acted for clients involved in RTA's, swimming pool accidents, legionnaires disease, slipping and tripping claims.

I have worked closely with banks and building societies doing business in Spain and set up and managed an independent panel of law firms to oversee meetings with clients.

About Your Role
I am the head of Litigation Department of the firm in Spain. I am specialised in all areas of Commercial litigation including civil (contracts, building and real estate disputes, etc.), commercial (shareholders disputes, unfair competition, trademarks and patents, restructuring & insolvency), criminal (white collar crime, and fraud in general), and administrative (licences, mines, costs, telecommunications, etc.). My role also includes team management and business development, as well as to assist the clients at Court as a barrister.

Since I started to work in a multinational law firm, I have been providing tax advice to corporate groups as well as big companies in the national and international field. This job has given me the facility and the experience to identify tax opportunities in national and international tax planning. During my experience in Irwin Mitchell I have had the opportunity to help non resident investors with interest in Spain and national investors with interest abroad prior-during-after their investment. At this moment an important activity that we are developing from the Tax area are the claims before the European Court of Justice in order to defend the interest of foreign clients for national laws against the European principles and we are happy to receive a positive resolution for most of them.

Tax Law is a complex field that requires a high specialisation and huge knowledge of the different national and international tax laws in order to give the client qualified advice. In my opinion a tax lawyer should not centre his activity in the fulfilment of the tax formalities but also needs to identify possible advantages for his clients , to have a proactive attitude and reach the client's necessities through efficient tax planning.
