Legionnaires' Disease
Legionnaires’ Disease is a serious condition that can be fatal. It is caused by breathing in droplets of water that contain the Legionella bacteria. In its most serious form, the disease can cause pneumonia.
The bacteria thrive in water that is between 25° and 45°C, meaning warm storage tanks, piped water and whirlpool spas can all be home to the bacteria.
While individual cases do occasionally occur, it is common for multiple people to be taken ill after breathing in bacteria in a hotel, office, hospital or other large public building.
